Afghan Government Statement On Adiala Jail Attack: Fake or Real?

An image circulated on social media, claiming that the Afghan government issued a statement regarding the recent attack on Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where former Prime Minister Imran Khan is imprisoned. The purported statement reads: “No Afghan can attack Imran Khan. Afghans love Imran Khan very much. Imran Khan played a great role  in liberating Afghanistan from America.”

On X (formerly Twitter), the video was shared here and here, and it gained more than 44K views. On Instagram here and on TikTok here and here gaining upwards of 1K views.

To verify the claim’s authenticity, a comprehensive fact-checking process was initiated. Mainstream media sources were searched for any reports contradicting the claim, but no such reports were found. Additionally, the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afghanistan (MOFA), was checked for any statements denying or condemning the incident, but none were found.

The claim appears to have been widely shared by supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf to mislead netizens about the Afghan government’s support for jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, attributing false statements to bolster his image.

Our factcheck confirmed that the claim alleging a statement from the Afghan government regarding the attack on Adiala Jail is baseless and unfounded. There is no credible evidence to support such a claim, and no official statements from the Afghan government have been found to corroborate it.
