Cowardly Pakis don’t even fight back. The social impact of CPEC” in connection with a recent terrorist attack which killed five Chinese engineers in Shangla, Pakistan. The shared videos show visuals of Chinese individuals beating Pakistani Citizens as an act of revenge.

The claim gained traction on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), it was shared here gaining upwards of 5K views.

To verify the claim’s authenticity, a comprehensive fact-checking process was initiated. A reverse imaging technique was employed, revealing that the first video originated in April 2018 in Khanewal, Pakistan. It depicts an altercation involving Chinese engineers who were reportedly denied permission to visit a local area without security, leading to a conflict with police.

The second video dates back to November 2016 from Malaysia, according to the report a foreign worker was violently bashed up with a bamboo stick for unknown reasons hence the video is not related to Pakistan.

The third video dates back to July 2023 and was shared with false context back in 2023 alleging that the wife of a Chinese Ambassador beat her Pakistani Maid on the street and now is being reshared again with false context linking it with revenge for a recent terrorist attack. However, the incident and source of the video are still unknown as no Pakistani mainstream media reported the incident.

The viral claim appears to have been shared with the intent to spread misinformation and stoke tensions between Chinese and Pakistani communities in the wake of a tragic terrorist attack, misleadingly linking unrelated incidents to recent events.
