PTI Claim of Female Protestors Being Manhandled During Protest in Karachi: Fact or Misleading?

The official account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on X(Formerly Twitter) shared a footage which claimed female protestors were being physically assaulted by Sindh police officers during protests against alleged rigging in the General Election 2024.

On X (formerly Twitter), the footage was shared Here and Here gaining upwards of more than 260.7K views.

In order to verify the claim we extracted keyframes from the footage and performed a reverse image search. Reverse image search revealed the shared video dates back to February 2021 from Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Three women accused of stealing were verbally abused and thrashed by male cops. After the video went viral in 2021, then Chief Minister Mehmood Khan took notice of the incident. The Inspector General of Police ordered the immediate suspension of the police officers involved in the incident.

Our factcheck confirmed that an old video was shared to propagate false and defamatory claims against Sindh police. The incident depicted in the footage actually occurred in February 2021 in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and was unrelated to the protests against alleged rigging in the General Election 2024.
