Did Assistant Commissioner Rawalpindi File an FIR Against PTI Key Leadership?

An application for first information report (FIR) went viral on X (Formerly Twitter) claiming Assistant Commissioner Rawalpindi, Qandeel Fatima Memon, has filed an FIR against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Hamad Azhar, Mian Aslam Iqbal, and Zartaj Gul. The claim was shared by the public, including prominent journalists.

On X (formerly Twitter), the image was shared here, here and here gaining upwards of more than 518.7K views.

To verify the claim, we looked for reports on mainstream media and didn’t find such news. Furthermore, we checked the account of Qandeel Fatima Memon (@MemonQandeel) and found that she had refuted such claims.

Memon said, “Neither have I written any such application nor has any police station in the area received any such application from me.” She further said that this application was intentionally made to spread through WhatsApp & Twitter.

Our factcheck confirmed that a fake application for FIR was made viral to propagate defamatory claims against Assistant Commissioner Qandeel Fatima Memon for political gains amid ongoing protests against alleged rigging in General Election 2024.
